Supervising, Mentoring, and Advising Students
Students & Post-Docs involved in Science Outreach Programs at AMBL
Many of the science outreach programs that AMBL offers involve the excellent and enthusiastic teaching talents of a number of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. As part of my role at AMBL, I supervise, collaborate with, and facilitate these talented teams of graduate students and post-docs who participate in our programs through both volunteer + paid roles.

Co-Operative Education Students, Summer students, Undergraduate Volunteers:
In my role as an educator at the UBC Bioinformatics Centre (UBiC), I had the unique opportunity to make connections with the student community at UBC. On the research side, I’ve supervised undergraduate students working on Atlas bioinformatics research project at UBiC. I also have experience supervising and training students in a wet-lab research environment. On the education and training side, I’ve hired, supervised, and mentored undergraduate students working on the UseIT – User Support, Education, and Training project at UBiC and on various bioinformatics curricula development projects.

Teaching Mentorship – Graduate Students:
My interactions with this set of students was in a teaching mentorship role. I designed a student project aimed at testing bioinformatics curricula that I developed. These students delivered a 1-day hands-on bioinformatics training workshop based on this curricula. These workshops were delivered in the Spring of 2005. My role was to oversee the workshop delivery and provide teaching mentorship and feedback to these student instructors.
